Microneedling is designed to improve skin conditions such as mild scarring from acne, wrinkles, fine lines, skin sagging, poor skin texture, reducing large pores, and stretch marks.
There will be redness and mild swelling similar to sunburn in the first 24-48 hours. Within a week or two, the skin will feel smoother and have a glow. Full results continue with further treatment.
First, the skin is cleaned, and a numbing agent is applied. Depending on your choice, different types of serums will be applied to your face. A small electronic pen with tiny needles will make microscopic pinpoints in your skin, about 1/2 to 2 millimeters in depth. The procedure stimulates the production of collagen, the substance that in our youth made our faces youthful and our skin full and robust.
Inflammation is temporary; your face will look pink for about 24-48 hours. During that time, the face should remain free of makeup and creams. You may use hyaluronic acid; it will speed up the process.
Micro-needling has been shown effective with all skin types and colors.
A numbing cream is applied to the area being treated. The mixture contains benzocaine, lidocaine, and tetracaine, which are very strong numbing agents. Patients report a variety of sensations, from a tickle to a pinch.
Micro-needling can be repeated every 4-6 weeks. Recommendations vary based on patient goals. For basic treatment, generally, 3 treatments, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart is optimum. Results are apparent after the first treatment. After three full treatments, patients often go for up to a year before opting to return.
